Windcrest, 98’ Piliothouse Ketch

Fontaine Design Group and Hodgdon Yachts of East Boothbay Maine have launched a classically inspired 98’ LOA ketch that epitomizes the combined talents of designer and builder. With one look at her clean sweeping sheer line and beautifully sculpted deck lines, one is reminded of the successful Fontaine Design Group pilothouse heritage. Her classically inspired profile is topped off with a beautifully proportioned ketch rig. The 98’ keel / centerboard hull form features the low wetted surface, proprietary Fontaine “delta form” underbody. This slippery hull form provides exceptional interior volume; her well appointed interior can be compared to yachts normally 10 to 15’ longer. Her keel / centerboard underbody has a board up draft of 8’-6”, giving her the ability of operating comfortably in her home territory off the beautiful Maine coast. Her unique form allows for shallow water anchorages and an interior volume for all the amenities expected of a world cruiser.

The owner desired a design to suit his family-oriented lifestyle, wanting both a home away from home as well as a formal environment for dining and entertaining.  Fontaine Design Group in cooperation with the talented team of Hodgdon Yachts met this challenge and created a sophisticated raised panel interior.  The yacht features a large deck salon with exceptional natural sight lines incorporating a comfortable seating area, full navigation / operating area and a well-appointed bar.  For a more intimate setting, the main salon encompasses a formal dining area, comfortable lounge and state of the art entertainment center.  The aft owners’ accommodations feature double guest suites each with private ensuite facilities, a full width aft owners cabin with large double berth, desk/vanity, private ensuite facilities, abundant hanging locker space and a functional aft egress to the owner’s private aft cockpit, specifically designed to provide a secluded and quiet environment for family and special quests.

State of the art sail handling features a carbon fiber main mast and mizzen. Both have a carbon fiber in-boom automated furling system complete with captive halyard winches. The deck hardware is all custom designed stainless steel with stainless steel hydraulically powered winches.

This design has been tank tested and has average speeds under sail or power in excess of 11 kts. On-board systems include a 425 h.p. diesel engine, two 35kw AC generators, water maker, air conditioning and sewage treatment systems, and everything else anyone could dream of for self-sufficient global voyaging in high comfort and style.
